This specific work can be considered a type of fan art. It shows the painter and sculptor Michelangelo Buonarroti, one of the most important artists of the Italian High Renaissance. His most important works include the dome of St. Peter’s Basilica and the detailed ceiling fresco of the Sistine Chapel in Rome. Michelangelo had a rather dark character and was a loner who devoted all his energies to his art. I tried to capture this contrast between artistic genius on the one hand and a darkness, insecurity and self-doubt on the other with my portrait in the style of disruptive realism.
